Comparison with events
The matches can look impressive when the current text is placed directly beside later events. Historical verification requires the reverse order: establish the exact pre-event wording, then compare it with the event, and finally preserve misses and variant readings. Where interpretation changes
Voja Antonić reported that twelve editions differed and changed over time. During fieldwork he was directed to twelve pages supposedly written by Mitar himself, despite Mitar's illiteracy. Defenders answer that successive governments altered passages hostile to them. That explanation does not authenticate an original unless custody, handwriting and date can be independently tested.
