CHAPTER 07 · CELESTIAL ADDRESS LEDGER

Addresses Among the Stars

Zeta Reticuli, the Pleiades, Sirius, Orion. The objects are real. This chapter asks when a real point in the sky acquired a civilisation, a people and a story.

The stars were always there. When did we begin to call them home?
ASTRONOMY

What observations establish: object type, distance, stellar properties, planets and survey status.

STORY

Who attached an alien address, where it first appeared and how later stories reused it.

  1. CELESTIAL ADDRESS 001

Zeta Reticuli — How Did Unnamed Dots Become an Alien Address?

Zeta¹ and Zeta² Reticuli are real stars, but Betty Hill's sketch did not name them. This record follows how dots and lines drawn in 1964 passed through Marjorie Fish's model, Astronomy in 1974, UFO culture and Project Serpo in 2005 to become an ‘address.’

    OBJECT TYPE
    Wide common-motion stellar system · two Sun-like G-type main-sequence stars
    DISTANCE
    About 39 light-years (about 12 parsecs)
    FIRST IDENTIFICATION
    Marjorie Fish · 1969–1974
